GENERAL SCHOOL POLICY
The General School Policy outlines how Alberview Primary functions on a day-to-day basis and sets clear expectations for learners, parents, and staff.
It covers key areas such as the school’s vision and values, the code of conduct, admissions, school uniform and appearance, attendance and punctuality, academic subjects, homework and assessment, medical requirements, extra-mural activities, communication with parents, excursions, and the care of personal property.
This policy ensures fairness, consistency, and a safe, structured learning environment for all learners and forms the foundation of the partnership between home and school.
LEARNER’S CODE OF CONDUCT
PLEASE NOTE: This is a VERY important document that should be read by BOTH parents and learners
The Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behaviour expected of all learners at Alberview Primary and aims to create a safe, disciplined, and respectful learning environment.
It outlines learners’ rights and responsibilities, school rules, expectations regarding behaviour, appearance, attendance, and the care of property, as well as procedures for managing misconduct.
The policy also explains disciplinary processes, due process, and the shared responsibility between the school and parents in supporting positive behaviour and a culture of respect and accountability.
RELIGION POLICY
The Religion Policy outlines how Alberview Primary respects and accommodates the diverse religious beliefs within the school community while upholding constitutional values.
It explains learners’ and staff members’ rights to freedom of religion and conscience, the voluntary nature of religious observances, and how religious education, assemblies, holidays, attire, and dietary considerations are managed.
The policy also ensures that no learner is discriminated against on the basis of religion and clarifies how religious considerations are handled in relation to school activities and admissions.
SOCIAL NETWORKING POLICY
The Social Networking Policy outlines how learners, educators, and parents are expected to use social media and digital communication responsibly and safely.
It explains acceptable online behaviour, the protection of personal and confidential information, and the prevention of cyberbullying, harassment, and inappropriate content.
The policy also clarifies the responsibilities of learners and staff when engaging online, both in and outside of school, and the possible disciplinary or legal consequences of misuse.
SCREENING, IDENTIFICATION, ASSESSMENT and SUPPORT (SIAS) POLICY
The SIAS Policy explains how Alberview Primary identifies and supports learners who may experience barriers to learning.
It outlines the processes used to screen, assess, and provide appropriate support for learners with additional educational, emotional, social, or developmental needs.
The policy clarifies the roles of teachers, parents, school-based support teams, and district support services, and emphasises early intervention, inclusion, and partnership with parents to ensure every learner has the opportunity to succeed.
SPORT AND RECREATION POLICY
The Sport and Recreation Policy outlines Alberview Primary’s approach to sport as an essential part of holistic education.
It explains the values of fair play, respect, participation, and personal development, while detailing learner participation expectations, the range of sport codes offered, coaching standards, and the management and funding of school sport.
The policy also provides guidance on affiliations, the use of coaches, learner progress, and appropriate sport attire to ensure a safe, inclusive, and well-managed sporting environment for all learners.
LANGUAGE POLICY
The Language Policy explains how language is used at Alberview Primary for teaching, learning, communication, and admissions.
It outlines the school’s Language of Learning and Teaching (English), and how multilingualism is supported within the framework of national and provincial education legislation.
The policy also clarifies language-related communication with parents, learners’ language rights, and how language choices apply during the admissions process.
